Control of volatile organic compounds: Over 200 auto repair shops in Hongyang City have suspended operations for 2 days
The municipal committee and government of Xingyang City have decided that from 00:00 to 24:00 on June 13th, and from 00:00 to 24:00 on June 15th, all VOCs-related motor vehicle repair sites within the urban area will be completely shut down and cease operations.
VOCs is the abbreviation for volatile organic compounds. VOCs refers to a general term for a class of compounds. Generally speaking, they are organic chemical substances with high vapor pressure and easy volatility at normal temperature and pressure. They mainly include various alkanes, alkenes, oxygen-containing hydrocarbons, and halogenated hydrocarbons from the aliphatic and aromatic families, such as benzene, toluene, dichloromethane, formaldehyde, and ethyl acetate, etc.
VOCs have a wide range of sources. According to experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Environmental Ecology Research Center, VOCs mainly come from three sources: industrial fixed sources, vehicle exhaust emissions, and daily life sources.
With the increase in the number of cars, the automotive repair industry is also constantly developing. Automotive repairs inevitably lead to some unnecessary energy waste and harmful pollutants. Therefore, it is necessary to control the degree of pollutant emissions in automotive repair enterprises.
To cooperate with the superior environmental protection department in conducting the detection of volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions and conducting a survey to understand the impact of the atmosphere in Henan Province, with VOCs pollution control as the focus, measures to implement staggered production during hot weather were explored to significantly reduce the total VOCs emissions. The unified arrangement and deployment of the Yingyang Municipal Government required that from 00:00 to 24:00 on June 13th and from 00:00 to 24:00 on June 15th, all VOCs-related vehicle repair sites within the urban area be completely shut down and suspended operations.
On June 13th, the Road Transport Administration of Yingyang City organized 17 law enforcement officers, divided into 8 groups, to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all repair sites within the urban area of Yingyang City. They urged all VOCs-emitting vehicle repair sites within the urban area to completely stop operations and suspend production. In cooperation with the superior department, they used the "exclusion method" to collect real experimental data. They inspected over 200 VOCs-related vehicle repair sites and found no cases of non-compliant operations by the repair sites as required.
It is understood that this action provided a strong guarantee for collecting real monitoring data within the specified time frame.
